Crescent Beach, Treasure Beach and Summer Haven: the first St. Johns stop on A1A
People assume a Palm Coast company is far from Crescent Beach. It is the closest part of the county to our shop, and the trucks pass Fort Matanzas most mornings.

The myth, and the map
“You’re all the way down in Palm Coast.” We hear it on the phone from the south end of Anastasia Island, and the map disagrees. From Cook’s headquarters on Fairmont Lane, A1A runs north past Marineland, through the county line, past Fort Matanzas and over the Matanzas Inlet to Summer Haven and Crescent Beach in about half an hour. A company based north of downtown has to cross a bridge and run the whole length of the island to reach the same houses. Crescent Beach is not the far end of our territory. It is the near end of this one.
Three communities on one road
Crescent Beach is an unincorporated St. Johns County community gathered around the SR 206 bridge, roughly ten miles below downtown St. Augustine, with a few hundred permanent residents and a great many second homes and rentals. Along A1A and the beach side it is a mix of 1960s and 70s block houses, 1980s and 90s stilt houses, condos near the bridge, and a steady run of post-Matthew elevated rebuilds. Inland of A1A the lots run back to the Matanzas River and the marsh.
Treasure Beach sits just north of the bridge off A1A: a canal-front neighborhood dug in the 1960s and 70s, with boat lifts, seawalls and a mix of original ranches and rebuilt or raised houses. The canals connect to the Matanzas, which means salt water a few feet from the back door and a tide line on every seawall.
Summer Haven is the small, battered strip south of the inlet near Fort Matanzas, where the ocean has repeatedly broken through Old A1A and taken houses with it. A handful remain, elevated and stubborn. We service them when the road allows.

What the south island does to equipment
The exposures stack up here in a way they do not inland. Ocean salt on the wind from the east. Canal and river salt from the west. Storm tide from both sides during Matthew and Irma and again with Ian and Nicole, when the inlet surge reached pads that had never been wet. And the ordinary humidity of a barrier island, where an air handler in an unconditioned space under a stilt house sweats all summer.
So the calls sort predictably. Corroded electrical components and thinning coils on units less than ten years old. Air handlers rusting out under elevated floors. Flooded or salt-soaked condensers after a surge. Rental systems with bypassed float switches and ignored filters. And, like everywhere in the county, the 2004-2008 systems in the condos and rebuilds that are simply at the end.
How we work this stretch
Every south island replacement is quoted for the exposure: coated outdoor coil, stainless hardware where it can be substituted, the unit on the landward or street side when the lot allows, elevated above the highest water mark the owner can show us, and strapped for wind. Under stilt houses, the air handler goes into a sealed and insulated enclosure above the flood line or comes up into the house. Line sets get jacketed insulation that salt air cannot reach. Rentals get a float switch that is wired in and a sheet for the cleaner.
Repairs get an honest read on age. A contactor and capacitor on a six-year-old unit, yes. The same parts on a thirteen-year-old unit whose fins come off on a brush are a stopgap, and we say so before you pay for it.
Half an hour up A1A
Crescent Beach is about 30 minutes by A1A from Cook’s home base in Palm Coast, 37 Fairmont Ln, a little more to Treasure Beach and a little more again when the SR 206 bridge or the summer beach traffic slows the road. We dispatch around the clock and the rate does not rise after hours. For stilt houses and canal lots, the first visit includes a look at where the next unit should go, even if this visit is just a capacitor.
South island questions
Why would I call a Palm Coast company instead of one in town?
Because for Crescent Beach, the Palm Coast shop is the nearer one. A1A from Fairmont Lane to the SR 206 bridge is about half an hour; coming down from north of downtown through the island traffic is often longer.
Our Treasure Beach house was rebuilt after Matthew. Why does the new unit already look rough?
Canal homes get salt from the water a few feet away and from the ocean wind over the dune, so an uncoated coil set on the canal side ages fast even when it’s new. A coated coil, a rinse routine and moving the unit to the street side at the next replacement are the fixes, in that order of cost.
Our place is up on pilings. Where do you put the indoor unit?
Inside the conditioned space if there is any closet to spare, and if not, in a sealed, insulated enclosure under the house above the flood line. An air handler sitting in open salt air under a stilt house is the shortest-lived installation on this coast.
Is Summer Haven even reachable for service?
Yes, by Old A1A when it’s open and otherwise on foot from the nearest passable point for a diagnosis. The handful of houses that remain there are on our route, and we plan those visits around the tide and the road condition.
